Dorothy Grant's Scarves Collection
Dorothy's garments have been described as a site of intersection. They are a creative space
where fashion meets Haida art, myth and history. Like art, fashion should not be stagnant, but
be constantly moving to convey a contemporary culture.
Description
Dorothy has reinvented this look of a long rectangle silk satin scarf, to fit the fall/winter season. It is made up of luxurious silk, and it can be draped on the body in several various ways.
The "Raven" scarf is a bold Haida “formline” design inspired by the
majestic mischievous trickster raven. It is bordered with Dorothy’s signature wave
pattern. In three elegant colors.
The Raven in Northwest legends symbolizes creation, transformation, knowledge, prestige, as well as the complexity of nature and the subtlety of truth. He also expresses
the unknown and shows that every person sees the world differently. The Raven was
often called upon to clarify truths in visions, as the wise elders knew that what the eye
sees is not always the truth.
The colours are:
Cream/Red/Black
Material
Woven with 50% Silk & 50% Cotton.
Measure
This scarf measures 75 in (Length) by 23 in (Width)
The history behind the art/legend
The Raven in NorthWest legends symbolizes creation, transformation, knowledge, prestige, as well as the complexity of nature and the subtlety of truth. He also expresses the unknown and shows that every person sees the world differently. The Raven was often called upon to clarify truths in visions, as the wise elders knew that what the eye sees is not always the truth.
The Raven is known as the messenger of the sky and famous for being a somewhat mischievous glutton. He's always out to please himself and to have a good time. He's very adventurous.
