Dorothy believes that her clothing embodies the Haida philosophy Yaangudang meaning “self respect.” The driving force behind her clothing designs is “empowerment, pride and feeling good about oneself.”
The 5 Pod Killerwhale hat, is a symbol of the powerful dorsal fin of the Killerwhale in circular form. Dorothy plays on the use of circular motion of a pod of killerwhales, it is abstract in shape with an eye symbol in the dorsal fin. the positive and negative space are equally balanced in this design, a design task not easy to achieve.
Dorothy adds an antique Mother of Pearl button on her hats as her signature.
